A geeky girl living in the big city, making her way, the only way she knows how... no wait, that's The Dukes of Hazzard. Who am I again? Oh yeah, a pop culture obsessed writer, publishing person, and occasional nerd. And I'm getting married. I talk about that, too.

I want to tell her to eat a cookie...

But I honestly think she looks just about perfect. Check out Entertainment Weekly's gallery of other exclusive Oscar shots here. I'm a fan of the ones by Jennifer Rocholl.

Look for us on iTunes!

Ok, no, not really. As Doyce says, it's a meme, but I like it.

The rulez:

CREATE YOUR BAND NAME & ALBUM COVER:

To Do This

1 - Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random” or click here. The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to "Quotations Page" and select "random quotations" or click here.
The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days” or click here.
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.

5 - Post it to Facebook or your blog, or wherever.

Jolly Ole Denver!

After a work lunch downtown, I spent the afternoon in a cozy cafe with free wifi and a plethora of outlets, then met Doyce and had a few pints (of beer) with Tim & Kim at Pint's, a local British pub. Yummy food, delicious beers, and great conversation = fun!

Further technical note: phone photos that post sideways require some work (aka resaving in the correct vertical format) in order to look nice.

A Day in the Life of ktbuffy

According to Flickr, this Saturday December 21st will be their 18th "DILO" day! I'll be in a car with Doyce and Kaylee, driving from Denver to South Dakota, but I think I could be persuaded to take a few pictures. If I do it on my phone, I can post pics directly here, but they'll probably come out better if I use the camera. We shall see!!

We made it back!

And lest you think that's the easiest thing to say, allow me to submit photographic proof..."I don't want to alarm anyone, but I think we're being followed by PIRATES!"

Denver weather

Perhaps I mentioned the other day when it snowed? In May? The blossoming trees in our backyard got a pretty heavy dusting. But then, like most of Denver's snow, it was gone.Anyway, it rained last night. A heavy downpour with thunder and lightning which continued into a pretty heavy shower this morning. The puppies, though their ears perked up when I said "outside," took one step out into the rain and came back inside. I don't blame them.

Now, the sun is out again (well, trying to get out) and the rain is drying on the back deck. What's the joke about weather? If you don't like it, just wait five minutes and it'll change. That's not Denver though -- where is it? Internets? help me out here.

Also, not exactly weather related, but cool full moon last night. I didn't see it, but I feel asleep to the cool blue glow coming in our bedroom window.

I got MARRIED!

Ok, not really

The creek isn't exactly on our property, but is in the nearby park where I take Dizzy for a walk every other day (on the other days, I take Jake for a walk, but he's got a sore leg, and he can't go as far). There's also some pretty awesome looking trees, like this one:

That was last December/January, after a blizzard. This is the same tree the other day:

I'm sure you can also guess which pic was taken with a real camera, and which with my phone. I'm hoping to get out and take a few more shots, now that I have new batteries in my camera, to show people where I live. Well, ok, not exactly. I don't need any stalkers!

View down my street

I'm still getting used to the idea that that's my view. Where's the skyscrapers? Oh yeah -- out here they call them "mountains".

Wedding Pic!

Since I'm sure my sister doesn't want her wedding photos on the web, just this one of the the little munchkins after the ceremony. Too adorable!

I got a couple of OK ones of Doyce and I, but I think the pro photographer might have snapped a few others. I loved my dress, not least because it was one of the very few dresses worn by a guest that wasn't black! Also, everyone said I did a very good job with my reading, Robert Louis Stevenson's A Wedding Prayer.
Lord, behold our family here assembled.
We thank you for this place in which we dwell,
for the love that unites us,
for the peace accorded us this day,
for the hope with which we expect the morrow,
for the health, the work, the food,
and the bright skies that make our lives delightful;
for our friends in all parts of the earth.
Amen.

ZOO!

Someone told me it's all happening at the zoo, and after a trip up the Bronx Zoo today with Blooooooom, I do believe it's true! Highlights (given that I was with the Monkey Queen), were the Congo Exhibit (gorillas!), the monkey house (marmosets!), and Jungle World (bearcats!). Behold, pictorial proof.

First, a sleeping polar bear.Polar bear

A red panda, also called a firefox.Firefox

Giraffe! There was a baby in the pen, too, about a year old. Not sure if this is it, or its mom.Giraffe

Gorillas. We stayed and watched these guys for ages. Well worth the additional price of admissions.Gorillas

A bearcat!Bearcat!

And finally, a little monkey guy. Can't remember his name, but I liked his trick with his foot. That would be SO USEFUL for doing my own toenails.Pedicure

Garden of the Gods

As promised, pictures!

This is just some of the beautiful scenery in the Garden of the Gods. I don't know how I thought it was made, but I was really interested to learn (by eavesdropping on a tourguide) that the Garden, and Red Rocks closer to Denver, were made when a big flood came along and lifted the natural ground rock to an angle, and then left it to sit there. Again, that's just what I overheard. I welcome any comments that want to tell me more! I love geology! (Actually not a lie. It's my favorite science.)
And this is, of course, the great rock climber Kaylee, ignoring all signs forbidding rock scrambling, taking a whisk to the limestone. You go girl!!

Us

Got some nice pictures from Doyce's trip to NYC this weekend, and from the engagement party, but this is one of my favorites. All together now, "Awwwww..."
Hint. I'm the tan one, with the ring!

Butterflies!

Spent the today surrounded by the great outdoors. First, doing yardwork (I got a blister on my finger!), then lunch and some shopping, then the Butterfly Pavilion with Kaylee!
Butterfleurs
I did actually manage a few pictures of Kaylee too, but if you can believe it, the butterflies were easier to keep in the frame for a shot than a two-year-old toddler, who thought the point of having three grownups with her was more people to chase after her.
Another butterfleur!

Had a lot of fun last night at the wrap party, which took place around this pool. Luckily, no one fell in.

Also, we enjoyed some teeny tiny beers!!
