Sweet, sweet shoe shopping
So, the good people at DSW know me very well. First, they email me to remind me that this week, New York is offering tax free shopping on shoes (and clothing, but whatever. This is about the shoes!) under a certain price. Then, as if that wasn't enough, they send me another email this morning that every dollar I spend on shoes this month is worth two "membership points", instead of the usual one for one ratio, because it's my birthday month.
And suddenly, visions of black heels and brown boots dance in my head.
Yummy. Want.

Not really, because I can usually convince myself that good things come in small packages, and having somethign really great for less time makes it more precious. Does that make any sense?
You should go to your DSW! If you sign up with their thing now, you can get the birthday special NEXT month!

There's a whole world out there, Avo. A world with options. A world with... shoes. Lots and lots of shoes.

Lets see...
1 pair black drees shoes.
1 pair brown loafers (Sparry)
1 pair topsiders (no metal...good for metal detectors)
1 pair Cowboy boots, black
2 pair walking shoes.
1 pair snow boots, Sorrel's
1 pair Merrell's (so warm and comfy :) ))
1 pair of Sandels
2 pair, work/hiking boots.
So...several shoes for several functions.

So, going to get yourself just a pair of black heels and brown boots or going to start by looking for those and then seeing what else catches your eye while in the store?
1 pair tan gravis sneakers
1 pair black gravis boots
1 pair black nike boots
1 pair black bass dress shoes
1 pair black doc martin boots

Start by looking for black heels -- saw a swexy pair of Anne Klein slingbacks when Jackie and I were shopping in Colorado, but didn't know about fitting them in the bag to bring back home, so I'll look for those first, and see what else catches my eye in the three or four aisles of "dress shoes," then I'll wander over to the boots, see if I can find the pair I picture in my head, and see if they fit over my crazily developed ice-skater calves. And then, of course, the aimless wandering. Glee!
And I'd start listing shoes, but it's a long, long, loooooong list. Even just looking at the shoes I keep here in the office, that's:
1 pair black slingbacks
1 pair butter tan suede heels
1 pair chocolate brown suede heels
1 pair b&w pointy-toed mules
1 pair navy square toed heels
1 pair navy flats
1 pair black suede heels
And that's just what's in the bottom drawer of my file cabinent or under my desk.

You store that many shoes at work?!?
Yeesh.
All I have is a pair of walking shoes for good walking days at lunch.

I often end up wearing the walking shoes to work, and then changing when I get here. Except for days like today, when I wear my black knee-high boots. Or yesterday, when I wore walking shoes, but brought another pair of shoes in with me to change into when I got here.

SHOE CONFESSIONAL TIME!
1 pair high-top Wallabies (fawn) (work)
1 pair black Sketchers (work)
1 pair hightop brown pseudosuede tennies (for gardening).
1 pair white tennies
1 pair hiking boots
1 pair brown suede dress shoes (church/formal)
1 pair nice brown loafers with tassels (church/formal)
1 pair worn brown loafers with tassels and killer grommets
1 pair very worn brown loafers with no tassels or grommets but a very high comfort factor (travel and slippers)
1 pair simple Berkies
1 pair rubber "athletic" sandals
And now you know.

In order of frequency of use:
1 pair of reddish-brown Sketchers (work shoes for 80% of my workdays)
1 pair of black patent leather dress shoes (worn today... and maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks)
1 pair of tan leather Merrels (yard/housework -- worn most weekends)
1 pair of "Chucks" (Black and While 'classic' canvas Converse Star high-tops) -- worn most Fridays
1 pair of brown, all-leather, '60's track shoe'-style Sketchers (for whatever - they fit like a second sock :))
1 pair of Nike cross-trainers I wear when working out (so maybe every other day but only for an hour or so)
1 pair of cross-trainer-style golf shoes (yeah... not worn much :( )
1 pair of black, high-top, soft-cleat softball shoes (also good for paintball, but still not worn enough)
1 pair of black, super-insulated, good-even-for-South-Dakota-weather snowboots (you know, the ones I *FORGOT* to take tubing)
1 pair of leather Sketcher sandals (worn some on the weekends from about April to August)
1 pair of yellow&black, rubber, Nike pull-on sandals (sort of an expensive flip flop -- worn when ... I dunno. Rarely. Pull ons like that always make me feel like they're about to fall off.)
Finally:
A pair of leather, square-toe, Redwing workboots that I've had since eighth grade (almost never worn, but well-loved)
1 pair of beat-up black Sketcher dress shoes I can't bear to throw out, they are SO COMFY (rarely worn)
1 pair of tan-brown Sketchers I keep around to wear with my cords, even though the rubber of one of the soles is cracked all-through (rarely worn, and never worn enough to warrant the sole failure :P)
2/02/2006 6:17 PM
And from that, I've learned:
1. I have more pairs of shoes than I thought.
2. I'm a Sketcher-whore.
